What I Ate In Lisbon
My Lisbon culinary experience ranged from being quite weird to absolutely incredible.
Portuguese food has always been one of my favorites; my favorite restaurant, Oporto, in my hometown serves it. Considering that, I was excited to fly over ten hours to experience the food in Lisbon.
Before exploring all of the great food options around the city, I wanted to experience a dish that I saw on social media from a restaurant called Sea Me. The one I went to was located in the Time Out Market. What was the dish you ask? Well, it was an octopus hotdog. Yes, you read that correctly.

The meal was a cooked octopus tentacle that sat in between a bun. It’s one of the more interesting foods I’ve had in life. I’m certain that I’m in no rush to try an octopus hotdog ever again.
Besides Time Out Market, in Lisbon, it’s fairly easy to find just about any type of food, as Lisbon is an international city. Although that’s the case, considering their vicinity to the ocean, it seemed as if their main staples were sardines and other seafood. Fortunately, I love seafood!
One of my favorite alcoholic drinks in Lisbon was the Portuguese staple known as Ginjinha; a type of cherry liqueur. If you haven’t tried it before, it’s definitely worth checking out. What’s awesome is that there are stalls everywhere throughout the city that serve the liqueur, so you really can’t miss it, while you’re in the city.
A few other things I tried in Lisbon were the famous pastries from the city, pasteis de nata, which is a Portuguese egg tart. I also tried ramen after a night of exploring the city, a breakfast that included salmon and eggs, and a few coffee shops. All and all, I enjoyed my culinary experience in Lisbon and I’m looking forward to traveling back to the city, in order to try even more of their food.
